Today was the first day of Roberg Day Camp (RDC) and we got off to a great start!
So what is RDC you ask?
Well, one of the advantages to being on long term vacation *cough.cough* this summer is that I get to spend lots of time with my family. Now that school is over, we’re attempting to create a structured summer program for the kids. Here is the schedule we aim to maintain:
9:00 Wake Up
9:15 - 9:45 Get Dressed & Daven
9:45 - 10:15 Breakfast
10:15 - 10:30 Breakfast Cleanup
10:30 - 10:45 House Cleanup
10:45 - 11:50 First Activity
11:50 - 12:00 Wash Up For Lunch
12:00 - 12:30 Lunch
12:30 - 12:45 Rest Period
12:45 - 2:00 Second Activity
2:00 - 2:15 Break
2:15 - 3:30 Third Activity
3:30 - 3:45 Snack
3:45 - 4:00 End of Day Cleanup
Any day that we have some kind of trip planned, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly.
Our campers are Bassi Roberg, Rivky Roberg, Sendy Roberg, Mordechai Roberg, and yours truly as the head counselor.
I’m hoping to report on our daily activities, but we’ll see how that goes.
Today, we kicked off RDC with a bang and spent first activity preparing for our first trip:
Rivky expertly made scrambled egg sandwiches for Sendy and herself, and Deli sandwiches for me and Mordechai. We packed up some snacks, Powerade, and the sandwiches, filled up the car with gas, and drove to the Paint Creek Trail in Lake Orion Township.
We walked down to the Huron Clinton River and walked around in the water a bit. Nice and cool, but deeper than previous years. We ate lunch at the water, and then went hiking along some trail that I never knew existed. Along the way, we chanced upon some really colorful graffiti which actually looked quite pretty in contrast to the green of the foliage.
We eventually headed back to the car and drove to Troy to pick up my car wheel which was being repaired from a major dent it received courtesy of a Michigan pothole last winter.
We got home in time for third activity which was swimming in our new luxurious pool which has a deep and (and shallow end) of about 18 inches. Snack of the day was then served. (orange slices expertly peeled and separated by the head counselor.) That wrapped up the first day.
Some Other Info:
- Today (Rosh Chodesh Tamuz) is my parents' anniversary. Happy Anniversary Dad & Mom! May you have much nachas ad meah v'esrim!
- This past Shabbos, Parshas Shelach in chutz la'aretz, Sendy and I finished mishnayos Seder Moed. Stay tuned for siyum announcement and details.
